Parable and Conscience Meditation August 13

Chastity  August 13

. . . we testify through our chaste life that God is the one true origin of all human love and community, and that He is the One alone who one day shall be all in all (Const. 11.4).

From the depths of eternity, it was a Trinitarian Community that created:  “Let us make humanity in our image” (Gn. 1:26).  In the Garden, it was for community that God fashioned human beings: “the man . . . shall attach himself to his wife and they will become one flesh” (Gn. 2:24).  In the desert, a community was chosen to be the depository of the revelation of the true God:  “I will be your God and you will be my people” (Lv 26:12).  The blood of Christ created a community to be the sign and instrument of salvation:  “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart so that you may announce the goodness of the One who called you out of darkness into his own admirable light” (1Pt 2:9).  Finally, it will be a community of the just where all will be caught up in Trinitarian Love:  “And I saw descending from heaven before God the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (Rv 21:2).  It is the vocation of the celibate to be among the first to submit to the sovereignty of Love.  He is proposed as a model of the love of God and neighbor that should characterize the whole human community.  He goes to work as a prophet who reveals the Divine Love and the way toward God who will be All in all.
